Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities

NYAPRS is a proud to partner with the Mental Health Association of New York State (MHANYS) in this extraordinary initiative to improve services and social conditions for parents with psychiatric disabilities.
The Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities Initiative (PWPD) was initiated to provide a forum for parents with psychiatric disabilities. The effort quickly evolved to include all stakeholders who were working with families where one or both parents were living with psychiatric disability.

The Mission of the project is to raise awareness of parenting strengths and issues among providers of mental health services, to train mental health service providers in treatment issues, and support needs of parents with serious mental illness; facilitate networking among advocates for parents diagnosed with serious mental illness for the purpose of identifying gaps in service, and developing creative strategies to meet parents' needs.
