Assistant Director for Consumer Affairs and Recovery Initiatives
NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation, the largest municipal healthcare provider in the U.S., seeks a senior level manager to provide leadership and administrative oversight to an array of projects at Central Office, in the Office of Behavioral Health pertaining to consumer services.
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Mental Health, the candidate for the position uses their own experience as a mental health consumer to serve as a role model for others in the Corporation and to reinforce the power of hope and resiliency, and uses such personal experience to inform all aspects of work.
The candidate will:

Manage projects related to rehabilitation and recovery;

Identify and provide opportunities for training focused on recovery and resiliency and provide technical assistance in bringing such science to actual practice;

Provide technical assistance and resources regarding integrating health, mental health and substance abuse treatment and recovery;

Conduct and manage projects related to HHC peer counselors, including developing opportunities that will expand upon the recruitment, training and retention of peer counselors at HHC;

Provide educational events that promote motivation to change specifically in regard to vocational and educational goals and establish evaluative summaries for each;

Write reports and correspondence;

Represent HHC in the wider consumer community; and,

Assist HHC leadership in moving forward in making services person-centered and strengths-based.
Qualifications: The candidate should have a proven record as a change agent, demonstrated organizational and leadership skills as well as excellent written and oral skills. The candidate will work within a team at a central location but will be expected to travel often throughout the boroughs of NYC. A bachelor’s degree in human services required; masters degree preferred; at least five (5) years of progressively responsible work in the field of rehabilitation and recovery of persons with mental illness and/or co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, with some evidence of administrative responsibilities.
