Call your Senators and Representative today! Urge them to end sequestration and ensure adequate funding for HUD programs in the final FY14 budget.
Earlier this year, the House proposed funding the government at $967 billion. This amount is in line with levels that the Budget Control Act dictates. However, it violates spending caps by shifting funds to defense spending. HUD and housing programs are on the non-defense side, which puts critical housing funds in serious jeopardy.
In its FY14 budget resolution, the Senate proposed canceling sequestration and funding the government at $1.058 trillion, a dramatically higher level than the House proposed.
When Congress reached agreement to end the federal government shutdown, it named House and Senate conferees to negotiate the differences between the House and Senate proposed FY14 budgets. These Budget Committee conferees will determine a final spending amount for FY14.
ACTION: Please contact your Members of Congress now and urge them to protect HUD and USDA rural housing programs from further cuts in the FY14 budget!
Ask your Members to do two things:
- Urge Budget Conference Committee members to end sequestration and approve a final spending level that matches the Senate's proposed $1.058 trillion. If your Senators or Representative are not on this conference committee, urge them to reach out to conferees on the importance of HUD funding. Click here to see a list of conferees.
- Ensure that the 302(b) allocation to the THUD Appropriations Subcommittee remains at the Senate-proposed level of $54 billion, or be increased. The 302(b) allocation will determine the total amount of spending available for Transportation and HUD programs for FY14.
Please contact your Members of Congress now and urge them to protect HUD and other housing funds from the FY14 budget!
