July 24 Employment Call Features OMH on 1915.i Employment Expansion

NYAPRS Note: The Affordable Care Act creates a number of opportunities for states to improve their efforts to serve individuals in the most integrated setting and to meet their obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (the ADA) and the Olmstead decision. Through the ACA, there are several changes to Section 1915(i) of the Social Security Act that allow for states to remove longstanding barriers to offering home and community based services through the Medicaid State Plan. The NYAPRS Employment Advocacy Committee is hoping to promote the opportunity for Supported Employment and Supported Education services to be made available in New York State through these improvements under the ACA and Section 1915i. Through the Medicaid Redesign process, the New York State Office of Mental Health has examined the possibilities for people with psychiatric disabilities to receive Supported Employment, Supported Education and possibly other Home and Community Based Services through 1915i. This employment committee teleconference is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the NYS Office of Mental Health about their vision for improving employment and education outcomes for people with psychiatric disabilities in NYS.
