Hogan: Making Healthcare Suicide Safe

NYAPRS Note: As former NYSOMH Commissioner and New Freedom Commission on Mental Health Chair Michael Hogan points out in his video linked below, making healthcare suicide safe ought to be a priority. 40,000 people die by suicide each year in the U.S., 50% of whom have seen a primary care physician in the previous 30 days. For older men, it is 70%. It is essential, therefore, to integrate mental health components into primary care knowing that healthcare delivery systems are places where people can be saved.
