NYAPRS is very pleased to announce the appointment of Len Statham M.S. to the position of Chief Operating Officer.

Since 2012, Len has served as NYAPRS Director of Employment and Economic Self-Sufficiency Initiatives, designing and delivering statewide and nationally acclaimed training and technical assistance programs to community providers across New York and our nation.

In this role, he has helped facilitate and support the development of supported employment programs across New York and in Utah, Ohio, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and Colorado and has also worked with the National Development and Research Institutes Addiction Technology Transfer Center (NDRI-ATTC) and The Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation at Boston University to offer in face to face and online technical assistance service on employment related designs and outcomes in a variety of other states.

In addition, Len has played a prominent technical assistance role in SAMHSA’s Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center Strategy (BRSS-TACS) initiatives over the past 5 years, working with groups in North Dakota, Kansas, and Wisconsin to help them move towards recovery-oriented systems of care.

Previous to joining NYAPRS, Len had 20 years of experience as a rehabilitation practitioner and employment specialist in clinical and vocational settings in the Rochester area, including inpatient, Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation Treatment, Personalized Recovery Oriented Services and outpatient clinic programs.

“Len’s strong background in supporting the recovery and rehabilitative goals of the people we support and the community and state agencies who serve them, along with his longtime dedication to NYAPRS, has greatly prepared him to serve as our new Chief Operating Officer,” said Jeff McQueen, co-President of the NYAPRS Board of Directors.

Len has a Master’s degree in Organizational Management from SUNY Empire State College and is a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP). Len is also a Cornell University trained and Certified Benefits Planner.  Over the past 25 years, he has also operated a nonprofit agency in the Rochester area that provides services on-site at local low-income housing communities to promote community, tolerance, inclusion and wellness.

“Len brings a strong mix of management and leadership experience and skill to his work as our new COO,” said Peter Trout, NYAPRS Board Co-President. “We are looking forward to supporting him in this new role.”

Len is a person with lived experience in the mental health system and this experience informs and strengthens his work on recovery and employment issues. He currently serves on New York’s Peer Specialist Certification Board.

“Len’s personal experience has always driven his dedication and passion to his work in support of the people we serve and to NYAPRS as a whole,” said Harvey Rosenthal, NYAPRS Chief Executive Officer. “He will keep our great mission at the center of his work in this new role and will be a wonderful partner and leader in taking NYAPRS forward.”
